Chad has set up a military transitional council headed by the son of recently deceased Chadian President Deby for 18 months, local media reported Tuesday.

According to media reports, Chad’s Independent National Electoral Commission announced the preliminary results of the presidential election on the evening of the 19th, the ruling party “Patriotic Salvation Movement” candidate, the current President Deby won with 79.32 percent of the vote, won re-election.
Chad holds presidential elections on 11 April. According to preliminary results, former Prime Minister Albert Pahimi Padak came in second with 10.32 per cent of the vote. Turnout in this election was 64.81 per cent.
Deby founded the Patriotic Salvation Movement in March 1990 and became party chairman. In December of the same year, he became Chairman of the Council of State of Chad and Head of State. In March 1991, he became President of Chad and has been re-elected several times to date.
