About 15 bandits drove dump trucks filled with used tyres at around 9 a.m. on April 24 and attacked the home of the state’s governor, Hope Uzodinma, at his home state, the Imo state government confirmed.
Imo state police reported after the incident that the attackers threw gasoline bombs into the governor’s residence compound, resulting in the burning of two cars, the house was ignited;
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, and Imo state police initially concluded that the attackers were politically motivated, with media analysis suggesting the attack was carried out by the local extremist separatist group Bifra First Nations.
The attack came a day after the governor of Imo state met with President Muhammadu Buhari in abuja, the capital, and Hope Uzodinma said 1,844 prisoners had been arrested in the april 5 attack on the prison and police headquarters of the Correctional Services Department in the state.
In addition, he denounced separatist forces in the state and criticized some politicians for funding and participating in separatist groups.
