A clinic in York, Ontario, Canada, mistakenly injected six people with physiological saline while they were being vaccinated against Coronavirus, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) reported on April 19.
The Mackenzie Health Center, which runs the clinic, said in a statement that the incident happened on March 28. This mistake occurred because nurses needed to dilute the vaccine with physiological saline before receiving Coronavirus vaccine. The statement did not say which clinic the mistake occurred at or how it happened.
The statement said that while injections of saline would not cause any harm to the bodies of the six people, “this should not have happened.” The clinic has tested antibodies on people who came to be vaccinated that day to determine who needs to be revaccinated, the statement said.
Mackenzie Health said it had identified the problem through an internal quality assurance process, apologised to those affected and said it had conducted a comprehensive review of the process to ensure the same errors did not happen again.
