April 19 2021The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio said a shooting occurred again on the evening of the 17th local time during a vigil for the gun victims. A woman driving past was shot in the head and five others were injured.
The incident took place in Columbus when a small crowd gathered in the parking lot of a grocery store for a vigil. The sheriff’s office said in a press release that the vigil was held in memory of Jaclyn Hickman, who was murdered here a year ago.
At about 7:30 p.m. local time on the 17th, a dark-colored SUV passed by and officers began shooting at the vigil crowd. Five people were shot, including a 12-year-old child. The five were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
But at the start of the shooting, Latoya Carpenter, 39, was driving past the grocery store. Carpenter was pronounced dead at the scene after a bullet hit her in the head, causing her car to crash into a parked car near the store.
No suspects are reported to be in custody and the shooting is under investigation.
