April 18 2021 NBC reported another incident of hatred against Asians on the 16th. A 34-year-old Asian woman was harassed and verbally abused on a New York City subway. The victim claimed that only one homeless man had stopped him and that none of the others in the car had helped.
The Asian woman, who did not want to be named, told the media that at noon local time on the 15th, she was on the subway near 96th Street when a man approached her, pointed his finger at her face and said a few words of anti-Asian hate speech. The victim warned the man to stay away, but the situation got worse and the suspect became more violent.
The victim said that when the strange man approached him, only one tramp intervened. The tramp yelled at the suspect at the other end of the carriage and ran over to scare him away. “So I’m very grateful to him. Initially no one stepped in to help. ”
Police say the New York Police Department’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident. On the same day, police also arrested a 31-year-old man who had allegedly made anti-Asian remarks against a 25-year-old woman on the 13th and had been charged with hate crimes and aggravated harassment. As of April 11, the NYPD had received 54 reports of hate crimes against Asians this year, compared with 12 in the same period last year.
