April 15th, U.S. Secretary of State John Blinken suddenly arrived in the Afghan capital Kabul to meet with Afghan President Ghani and Chairman of the High Commission for National Reconciliation Abdullah.
Hours before the trip, U.S. President Joe Biden officially announced that all U.S. troops would be evacuated by September 11 this year.
Blinken assured President Ghani that the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan does not mean a weakening of the strategic relationship between the two countries, that the United States will fulfill its commitments to the Afghan government and people, will continue to provide diplomatic and humanitarian assistance to Afghan and Afghan forces, and will continue to work to promote the peace process in Afghanistan.
In his meeting with Abdullah, Blinking said the U.S.-Afghanistan partnership is changing, but it is still continuing and the U.S. and Afghanistan will write a new chapter together.
