April 15 Scarlett Aldridge, a prison guard at Ful sutton prison in the United Kingdom, was sentenced to 10 months in prison on April 14 local time after falling in love with an inmate and being arrested after tattooing the inmate’s cell code on his thigh.

Aldridge, 22, and her boyfriend, named Jones, were armed robbers, The Subway reported Thursday. Hull Crown Court heard that after the pair fell in love, Aldridge secretly took a mobile phone and sim card to jail for her boyfriend to contact her. Police intercepted the couple’s love letters in Jones’ cell and found a picture of a tattoo with his cell phone number attached to one of the letters. Later, when the nurse examined Aldridge, she found a tattoo on her left leg.

Aldridge pleaded guilty at the hearing to misconduct as a public official. The judge found that her actions “endangered the security of the prison” because mobile phones and sim cards could be used as “currency” to provide electricity to prisoners and disrupt prison order.
