The police found that the man died in April 2011, and the autopsy showed that he died of natural causes. His pension was discontinued as early as 2018, when the Norwegian Labor and Welfare Authority (NAV) could not contact him, but his bills continued to be automatically paid from bank accounts.
The man was reported to be in his 60s at the time of his death, had been married more than once, and had children. Arn Crokan, a professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, believes that if the man died 30 years ago, he is unlikely to be discovered nine years later. New technology systems simplify human processes while also making people pay for digital services.
