According to local media reports in the United States, on April 8th local time, Florida filed a lawsuit against the U.S. federal government, demanding that the U.S. government allow cruise ships to start sailing.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said at a press conference in Port of Miami that the federal government’s decision based on “very little data and evidence” has put the cruise industry at a stagnation for more than a year and put the industry on the brink of collapse.
He believes that the federal government has no right to do so, and Florida will fight back.
The lawsuit points out that the U.S. industry, including airlines, hotel restaurants, schools, parks, casinos and bars, has reopened under the guidance of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still imposes unreasonable restrictions on the cruise industry.
The lawsuit has been filed in the Tampa District Court.
It is reported that Florida has three world-renowned cruise ports, including Miami, Port Canaveral and Everglades Port. The industry has provided thousands of jobs and brought billions of dollars in revenue to the state’s economy.
In March 2020, when the epidemic in the United States began, several cruise ships broke out with the novel coronavirus, so the U.S. government imposed a ban on the cruise industry.
