April 7th, local time, the new ambassador appointed by Myanmar National Management Committee, Chiwen, took over the Myanmar Embassy in London and announced the recall of the former ambassador to the United Kingdom, Zuo Yumin. The Myanmar side wrote to the British Foreign Office informing that Zomin’s term of office ended at 17:00 on April 7 and that a new ambassador had been appointed.
At the same time, according to British media reports, due to the sudden takeover of the embassy, the former ambassador Zuo Yumin was blocked from entering the embassy, which triggered a large number of British and Burmese citizens.
Earlier, the Myanmar Embassy in the United Kingdom issued a statement on March 8 that all the staff of the embassy headed by Ambassador Sayumin announced that they were on the same position as the Burmese people. Ambassador Sayumin called for the release of imprisoned President Wen Min and State Senior Minister Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. The statement also said that Ambassador Sa Yumin had reached a number of consensus with the British side, including that the situation in Myanmar could only be resolved through negotiations.
On 25 March, the United Kingdom and the United States announced sanctions against Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited (MEHL) and Myanmar Economic Corporation (MEC) owned by the Myanmar military.
