The media previously quoted Al-Arabiya as reporting that an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps cargo ship was attacked near the coast of Eritrea in the Red Sea.
According to the media source, several mines attached to the hull exploded.
Arab satellite television also quoted sources as saying that it was Israeli saboteurs who attached homemade explosive devices to the ship’s hull.
The report said: “Iran ‘Saviz’ has been stationed in the Red Sea for the past few years” and has been carrying out missions to observe and support Iranian warships in the region for several years.
Iranian officials did not immediately comment on the incident.
Pentagon spokesman McNulty commented on the incident: “We have noticed the media coverage of the events of the Savez in the Red Sea. We can confirm that the U.S. military was not involved in this incident. We don’t have more information to provide.”
