April 5th – According to the data of the Chicago Police Department, in March this year, the number of shooting incidents and shooting victims in Chicago reached the highest level in the same period in four years, with an average of 7.5 shootings per day and 9.6 victims per day.
According to CNN, the city’s monthly crime report on city shootings and crime statistics shows that the number of shootings and shooting victims in the city increased in March compared with the same period in the previous three years.
Data shows that in March 2021, there were 233 shootings in the city, equivalent to 7.5 per day, with a total of 298 victims, equivalent to 9.6 victims per day; 146 shootings in March 2020, with 175 victims; and 136 in March 2019 Shootings, with a total of 165 victims; in March 2018, there were 136 shootings, with a total of 151 victims.
Meanwhile, Chicago’s first three months of the year saw a 33 percent increase in homicides compared to 2020, while shootings rose by nearly 40 percent year-on-year.
The report also said that from 7 p.m. Friday (2nd) to 5 p.m. Sunday (4th), Chicago police have reported 24 shootings, killing one person.
