April 3rd local time, the Central Executive Committee of the Myanmar Democratic League issued a statement announcing the repeal of Myanmar’s 2008 Constitution and will cooperate with Myanmar’s political forces to work for a better future for Myanmar.
Previously, the Council of Representatives of the Parliament of the Union of Myanmar issued a circular on March 31 to repeal Myanmar’s current 2008 Constitution. In the statement, NLD agreed and supported this announcement.
The Parliamentary Representation Committee of the Union of Myanmar was spontaneously established on February 5 by several NLD MPs who won the 2020 Myanmar general election. They spontaneously appointed the interim vice president and several interim ministers.
On March 21, the Myanmar State Management Council announced that the Federal Assembly Representative Committee had been illegal.
The Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar currently in force was drafted by the National Assembly in 2004 and adopted by referendum in 2008.
