According to the Italian Evening Post on April 2, local time, the owner of a pizza restaurant in Verona, Italy, has been blacklisted by the U.S. Treasury Department for two months because of the same name as a target of sanctions by the U.S. government.
According to the report, on January 19 this year, the U.S. government included a number of enterprises that do business with Venezuelan National Petroleum Corporation on the sanctions list, including catering companies operated by Alessandro Bazzoni, on the grounds of assisting the Venezuelan government to evade sanctions.
However, Alessandro Bazzoni himself has no connection with Venezuela, and may have been wrongly blacklisted because he has the same name as another target subject of sanctions.
The restaurant operator said that he was told by the bank in early February that he had been blacklisted by the U.S. government and that all accounts could not be used.
After investigating the cause of the incident, he filed a complaint with the relevant departments of the United States. Two months later, his account was unblocked, but he did not receive any apology.
