Recently, desert locusts have appeared in the Arusha and Manyala regions bordering Tanzania with Kenya. On February 21, Adolf Mkenda, Minister of Agriculture of Tanzania, visited the area.
Tanzania plans to launch two small aircraft to spray pesticides on desert locust-infested areas starting on February 22, and two aircraft will arrive in Arusha on February 22, one from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, from Nairobi to Tanzania, and the other from a local Tanzanian aircraft.
The Longido region in northern Tanzania is one of the desert locusts. Mwaisume, the district governor, said that according to the sampling situation at the scene, the locusts are not yet in the adult stage, and once eliminated, they should not cause serious damage to crops.
This pesticide spraying work plan will last for three to four days, but it depends on the assessment of the situation by experts from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Currently, these desert locusts have invaded eastern African countries such as Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and South Sudan.
