February 22 German media reported that the elite troops of the German Bundeswehr participated in military exercises in Arizona, United States, and two soldiers of the unit almost triggered diplomatic conflicts due to their overly secretive actions.
According to the Russian Satellite News Agency quoted the German Der Spiegel on the 22nd, the two soldiers decided to go to a nearby hospital at the time of the incident to see if doctors could provide relief to German soldiers in case of emergency or COVID-19.
The report said that the request for a potential emergency was normal, but the two soldiers showed “weird behavior”.
When hospital staff asked them to show their ID cards, the two plainclothes soldiers refused to show them, only showing NATO’s exercise orders.
Hospital staff immediately reported the suspicious behavior of the two to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), who believed that German soldiers were terrorists and espionage in the hospital to launch a subsequent attack.
The FBI contacted the German Embassy in the United States, but due to the high confidentiality, the embassy did not know that the German special forces were exercising in Arizona. The agency didn’t figure out the situation until after calling Berlin many times.
