According to the United Nations news website on February 16, United Nations Secretary-General’s spokesman Dugarik expressed concern about Myanmar’s draft cyber security law at a press conference held at Headquarters in New York on the same day, saying that the draft law will violate many basic human rights.
Dugarik said that Myanmar’s draft cyber security bill has been distributed to mobile network operators and licensed network service providers.
The United Nations country team in Myanmar is deeply concerned about the possible impact of this draft law.
“The UN country team is particularly concerned that the bill does not meet international human rights standards because it will allow illegal military-appointed authorities to violate the rights to freedom of expression, access to information, privacy and security,” Dugarik said.
