According to the Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency, Iranian military spokesman Gulam Reza Tahani said on the 15th local time that Iran and Russia planned to start joint naval exercises in the northern Indian Ocean on the 16th of this month.
Tahani is also the spokesman for this joint naval exercise. He said that Iran-Russia’s naval forces, Iran’s Air Force and Revolutionary Guards will participate in the joint military exercise code-named “Maritime Seat Belt Exercise”.
Russia plans to send a destroyer, a supply ship and a helicopter to participate in the exercise, which will be carried out in an area of 17,000 square kilometers.
Tahani also said that the military exercise sent a signal of “peace and friendship” to strengthen the security of international maritime trade, combat piracy and maritime terrorism, and share information on rescue operations.
