February 13 British Chancellor of the Exchequer Sunak recently called for the consideration of climate and natural factors at the core of this year’s decision-making in a video conference between finance ministers and central bank governors of the Group of Seven.
The United Kingdom is the rotating chairman of the Group of Seven this year, and Sunak and Bank of England Governor Bailey co-chaired the meeting on the 12th.
Sunak said that consideration of climate and natural factors should be at the core of this year’s fiscal agenda, paving the way for a truly green recovery of the global economy.
He also stressed the importance of supporting the smooth and effective transition of the economy to “net zero emissions”.
Sunak also called on the Group of Seven to take the lead in supporting economically vulnerable countries this year.
He said that the G7 must ensure that the international financial institutions have the appropriate tools to enable them to cope with the coronavirus pandemic.
The members of the Group of Seven are the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.
