Matthew Hancock, the British Secretary of State for Health, announced the above provisions and penalties in Parliament on the 9th. According to the BBC, passengers must book “quarantine packages” online before traveling, and adults traveling alone need to pay 1,750 pounds.

Hancock said that the government has signed contracts with 16 hotels to provide 4,600 rooms for isolation initially, and more hotels will be sought in the future if necessary.
Passengers outside countries or regions with high risk for the pandemic must be quarantined at home for 10 days. All passengers entering the UK must be tested for the novel coronavirus within 3 days before departure.
Those who test positive results are not allowed to go to the UK. Before leaving, they must also make an appointment for COVID-19 testing in the UK on a special website, and the relevant websites will begin to accept appointments on the 11th.
From the 15th, whether it is home quarantined or in a designated hotel, passengers must be tested for the virus on the second and eighth days of the quarantine, and must make an appointment on a special website in advance.
If the test results are positive, the isolation period will be extended by 10 days from the test date.
After the implementation of the new regulations, passengers must indicate the places they have visited when filling in the entry form, and provide information about the quarantine hotel and the appointment for COVID-19 testing.
Violators are punished
According to the new regulations, the carrier should ensure that the passenger signs the document accepting the new regulations, otherwise it will be fined.
Hancock said that attempting to conceal that he had visited a country or region at high risk of the pandemic within 10 days before the trip would lead to up to 10 years of imprisonment or a fine of 10,000 pounds, and passengers who are not quarantined in designated hotels will be fined between 50 million to 10,000 pounds.

The UK currently puts 33 countries and territories on the “red list” of high-risk pandemic, prohibiting travellers to these countries and regions within 10 days, except for British and Irish citizens and those with British residence rights.
Before the implementation of the new regulations on the 15th, those allowed to enter should be quarantined at home.
