February 8th, local time, the WHO held a regular press conference on COVID-19. Sumia Swaminathan, chief scientist of WHO, said that China has a variety of coronavirus vaccines under development, and WHO is communicating with Chinese vaccine developers.
At present, the WHO is evaluating the vaccine materials provided by China National Pharmaceutical Group and China Science and Technology Co., Ltd., and a team is also inspecting relevant vaccine production facilities in China.
“We are encouraged to hear now that Chinese vaccine manufacturers are willing to provide 10 million doses of vaccines for the ‘COVID-19 Vaccine Implementation Program’ in the coming months,” says Sumia Swaminathan.
Based on the WHO emergency use list and other standards, Chinese vaccine manufacturers will discuss specific terms with WHO on the “COVID-19 Vaccine Implementation Plan”.
