According to a February 1 analysis by Variety, CNN’s ratings plummeted by 44% in the last week of January.
The report said that this may indicate the trend of CNN in the “post-Trump era”.
According to the report, during the first week of the Biden administration, the TV channel of AT&T, a multinational holding company in the United States, found that CNN’s primetime viewership between January 25 and 29 decreased sharply compared with the peak in previous weeks.
Analysis of ratings data by variety based on two key indicators (target news audience and total viewers between 25 to 54 years old) found that CNN’s prime time (8:00-10 p.m.) of the week fell by about 44% from the previous week.
In addition, MSNBC’s ratings have fallen significantly, but far less than CNN’s.
Fox News ratings also fell to an all-time low since the U.S. election.
The variety website said that although it was too early to predict the long-term development direction of CNN through a week of data, this low ratings was consistent with the previous prediction of many experts: with Biden entering the White House, the news media that attacked Trump over the past four years will lose its advantage.
However, the decline in ratings is likely to be temporary, because Trump’s second impeachment trial will begin on February 8, and audiences will flock to it again.
