According to Fox News, on February 2 local time, all Republicans from the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee sent a letter to Jack Sullivan, the president’s assistant national security affairs, urging the White House to provide a “clear explanation” on how to fight against the “threat from the Communist Party of China”.
Fox News said that the letter was co-written by all Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee.
They claim that despite some nominated or appointed officials in the Biden administration have talked about China on different occasions, they are still “disturbed that you have not clearly stated how the government plans to continue the fruitful measures over the past four years to protect our territory from this far-reaching threat”.
In addition, these lawmakers also slandered China for “infiltration and exploitation” of the country’s communication and technology fields without foundation.
In addition to asking the White House to make a clear statement, these lawmakers also provided Sullivan and even the Biden administration with a “choice”.
The statement mentioned that they wanted to establish a “productive partnership” with Sullivan and the Biden administration as a whole, and asked for a briefing on “counterattacking China”.
Since Biden’s administration took office, the drama of “forcing the palace” seems to be playing out continuously.
On the same day that the House Homeland Security Committee sent a letter to Sullivan, Michael McCall, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, joined 20 representatives, to ask the Senate to suspend the confirmation of the nomination of Gina Raimondo, the candidate for Secretary of Commerce nominated by Biden until the Biden administration clarified its position on Huawei.
As originally planned, the Senate Commerce Committee of the United States Senate is expected to vote on Raymondo’s nomination on February 3.
Earlier, on January 25, Republican congressmen Romney, Rubio, Cotton and Sass, who had always held an anti-China position, jointly wrote to new finance minister Yellen, urging her to take a tough stance on China’s economic and trade issues.
A few days later, three anti-China members of the U.S. Senate, Marco Rubio, Ben Sasse and Tom Cotton, also wrote to Raymondo, asking her to clarify her position on Huawei in writing.
