February 2nd, local time, CNN reported that SpaceX’s prototype Starship SN9 carried out an altitude test flight on the same day, and an explosion occurred on landing.
According to reports, the SN9 flew a few miles in the air, hovered for a moment before making a descent dive, and finally exploded when trying to land and return to the launch pad.
The cause of the explosion is not clear. The Starship prototype SN9 was scheduled to fly for a test flight last week, but SpaceX delayed the plan because it violated public safety agreements with federal regulators, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The FAA resumed its authorization for the spacecraft on February 1 after SpaceX took “corrective measures” and promised to comply with public safety rules.
It is reported that SpaceX plans to replace its main rocket Falcon 9 with the Starship series, and finally complete the mission of carrying astronauts to the moon and Mars and carry out cargo.
