February 1 The Greek government confirmed for the first time on January 31 that it had found a Variant case of COVID-19 reported in South Africa, infected by a clergyman.
Nicos Hadalyas, deputy minister of the Greek Civil Protection, told the media on January 31 that the infected person was a Greek Orthodox clergy and that the government had tracked and screened for close contacts.
In order to prevent and control the pandemic, Greece began the national blockade on November 7, 2020, and extended the blockade period several times.
At present, the blockade period has been extended to February 8.
As of January 31, there were 156,957 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 5,796 deaths in Greece.
There are 173 cases of Variant COVID-19 reported in the UK across the country.
