January 28th local time, the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C., said that a gunman was arrested near the Capitol on the 27th.
According to the police department, the suspect is Dennis Westover, 71, who first stopped at the intersection of Second Street and Washington Avenue less than half a mile from the Capitol, and then walked north after leaving the vehicle.
Due to Westnov’s suspicious appearance, the Capitol police then approached him and asked him if there was a gun in his car.
Westnov admitted that he was carrying the gun, and he was taken back to the police station.
Police reported that Westnov carried a black pistol and 20 bullets.
He was charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Security measures near Washington, D.C., have been strengthened since the Capitol riots, and thousands of National Guard members are still stationed in the D.C., media reported.
