Israeli intelligence minister Eli Kohen led an official delegation to visit Sudan on the 25th.
This is the first time that the Israeli government has sent a ministerial delegation to visit Sudan.
After returning home from Kohen’s visit, he said that he had met with several Sudanese government officials.
The Israeli delegation discussed diplomatic, security issues and the potential of economic cooperation with the Sudanese side.
“I believe this visit lays the foundation for many important collaborations, benefiting both Israel and Sudan, and contributing to regional security and stability,” Kohen said in a statement.
The statement said that the two sides agreed that the Sudan would send a delegation to Israel.
At present, the Sudanese government has not commented on the visit of the Israeli delegation.
With the mediation of the U.S. government, Sudan and Israel agreed to normalize relations last October.
Reuters reported that Kohen’s visit was intended to discuss with the Soviet Union to promote the normalization of relations between the two countries.
After mediation by the United States, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed an agreement on normalization of relations with Israel last September, and Morocco and Israel agreed to establish full diplomatic relations in December last year.
The relevant agreement was opposed by the Palestinian parties.
