January 25th local time, the BBC reported that Chelsea, one of the six giants of the Premier League, fired coach Lampard, who had coached for a year and a half.
“It’s a very difficult decision, and not everyone and the board can easily make,” Chelsea said in a statement released on the same day.
Lampard, a 42-year-old former England international and Chelsea midfielder, led the team to a 0-2 defeat in the 19th round of the Premier League away from Leicester City last week.
He has won only one of the last five league games and is currently only ninth in the Premier League.
Lampard replaced Surrey at Stamford Bridge in July 2019 and took charge of the “Blue Army” coach on a three-year contract.
In his first season with Chelsea, Lampard led the team to fourth place in the league and reached the FA Cup final.
