More than 240 people have been arrested on Sunday when rioters robbed shops, set fire and clashed with the police in several cities in the Netherlands, according to police and Dutch media reports on January 24.
The day after a new round of stricter restrictions came into effect, mass demonstrations broke out.
Witnesses said that on Sunday afternoon, the police used water cannons, dogs and mounted police to disperse protesters in central Amsterdam.
Police say nearly 200 people are detained in the city, some of whom throw stones and fireworks.
After the curfew took effect at 9 p.m. (GMT), at least 10 cities and towns deployed riot police, NBC NOS said.
Vehicles were reportedly set on fire, police were stoned, and public property was destroyed.
