Reuters and The Hill reported that US President Biden talked with French President Macron on the phone on the 24th local time.
The Hill said that this was the first time that Biden had called since he took office.
According to the report, Macron welcomed the return of the United States to the Paris Agreement.
Biden expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral relations over the phone and stressed his commitment to strengthening the transatlantic partnership through NATO, the White House said in a statement.
The two agreed that common challenges such as climate change, the coronavirus epidemic and the world economic recovery need to be addressed through multilateral organizations.
