Iranian President Rouhani said on the 23rd that Iran will start the coronavirus vaccination in a few weeks.
Iran’s domestic vaccine is still in the clinical trial stage, and Rouhani did not mention which country will be used in Iran.
In a televised speech on the same day, Rouhani hinted that Iran would use a coronavirus vaccine purchased from abroad.
“Before the availability of domestic vaccines, it is necessary to purchase foreign vaccines,” he said.
Rouhani said that “there are some good progress in the domestic and foreign vaccine industry”, and three vaccines that Iran cooperates with other countries are expected to start testing this spring or summer.
Iranian media previously reported that the first domestic Iranian vaccine produced by Xifa Pharmaceutical Company began clinical trials in late December 2020.
Cuba said earlier this month that it signed a vaccine cooperation agreement with Iran, which will transfer Cuba’s most advanced coronavirus vaccine technology to the latter and complete the final phase of clinical trials in Iran.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei said on the 8th of this month that he had asked the government not to import coronavirus vaccines from the United States and the United Kingdom.
He said at the time that Iran is working hard to develop a vaccine and can import vaccines from “trustworthy places”.
