The Ministry of Public Health of Cuba released information on January 22 local time that the country had the first case of variant COVID-19 infection.
Dr. Guzman Tirado of the Peru Curi Tropical Medical Institute in Cuba said that based on tests of all those who entered the country since December 15 last year, a passenger from South Africa had contracted the variant novel coronavirus.
The patient and his close contacts have been quarantined as required, and it is impossible to determine whether the variant virus has begun to spread locally, but this possibility cannot be ruled out.
Data released by the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba on the 22nd showed that there were 530 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 4 new deaths in a single day.
At present, a total of 20060 cases have been confirmed, 188 deaths and 15,311 have been cured.
