Portugal confirms a case of variant COVID-19 infection found in South Africa

January 22, local time, the Portuguese National Institute of Health announced that a more infectious variant of COVID-19 infection had been found in South Africa.

The researchers said that the infected person with the virus was a South African living in Lisbon who entered Portugal from South Africa after Christmas and was diagnosed with COVID-19 in early January.

After genome sequencing, it was confirmed to be a case of the more infectious variant virus infection previously found in South Africa.

So far, this is the only confirmed case of a variant virus infection in South Africa in the country, and the Portuguese General Health Agency will track close contacts as early as possible to break the chain of transmission of the virus.
