Antonov, Russia’s ambassador to the United States, said that Russia has not yet made any contact with the new U.S. government, but Russia will start substantive dialogue after Biden is sworn in.
“As new officials from the White House, the State Department and other departments take office, we look forward to engaging in substantive dialogue with them on pressing bilateral and international issues,” Antonoff said.
He also stressed that Russia is willing to engage in substantive dialogue with the United States on the extension of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, and believes that the Treaty may still be extended.
Antonov also told the Russian media that Moscow also hoped that the Biden administration would consider Russia’s proposal to convene a summit of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and hoped to organize the summit after the threat of the epidemic subsided.
