The United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced on the 19th that the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum voted on the same day to approve the electoral mechanism for the transitional government institutions in Libya.
On the 16th, the Advisory Committee of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum chaired by the United Nations reached an agreement in Geneva on the proposal of the Libyan Interim Government Election Mechanism, and it was decided that all members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum would vote on the agreement.
Under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, voting began at 10:00 a.m.
Libyan local time on January 18 and ended at 10:00 a.m. on January 19.
Of the 74 members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, 72 voted.
Of these, 51 votes in favor, 19 against and 2 abstentions. The vote in favor was 73%, exceeding the 63% threshold set by the Advisory Committee.
The Libyan Political Dialogue Forum held in Tunis last November decided to hold the Libyan parliamentary and presidential elections on December 24, 2021.
An interim government agency will be established to manage state affairs during the transitional period.
