According to a report by the Russian News Agency, on the 19th local time, Antonov, the Russian ambassador to the United States, issued a statement saying that the United States violated international law by announcing sanctions on the “Nord Stream II” natural gas pipeline project.
Antonov said in a statement: “The new sanctions of the United States are rude, just for its own narrow purpose.
The move of the United States violates international law, undermines the principles of fair and free trade, and ignores the interests of its allies.”
Antonov also said: “This is naked unfair competition, just to expand the U.S. share of the European energy market, so that the outcome will only be both sides of defeat.”
On the 19th, the U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions on the Russian gas pipeline laying ship Fortuna and its company KVT-Rus under the Sanctions Counterattack against the Enemy of the United States Act (CAATSA).
Under the sanctions decree, the assets of the company in the United States will be frozen and no American company will be allowed to do business with it.
Earlier, Russia announced that it would resume laying the “Nord Stream II” pipeline project on the 15th of this month, which is now forced to suspend.
