Portuguese Finance Minister João Leo tested positive for COVID-19

January 16th local time, Portugal’s finance department reported that the country’s finance minister João Leo tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Minister Leo is currently quarantined at home and working remotely, according to the announcement from the finance department.

Born in 1974, Leo is an economist, professor and politician.

He served as the Secretary of State for the Portuguese Finance and Budget from 2015 to 2020, and as the Minister of Finance of Portugal since June 2020.
