In order to prevent the spread of avian influenza, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock decided on January 14 to ban the import of poultry egg products from India indefinitely.
At the same time, a letter was sent to the border administration to strictly prohibit the illegal entry of poultry egg products into Bangladesh from India, and invited the Ministry of the Interior to strengthen the monitoring of border areas.
Ranak Mahmoud, secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock of Bangladesh, said, “To date, no bird flu outbreak has been found in any part of Bangladesh. Breeders and consumers don’t have to panic.
The place where the avian influenza outbreak occurred in India is hundreds of kilometers away from Bangladesh. We are taking precautions to prevent the spread of the epidemic.
We have experience in responding to the pandemic and will take immediate steps if any signs emerge. Consumers do not have to stop eating poultry and egg products. The ban on importing poultry and egg products from India will continue to take effect until things return to normal.”
It is reported that as of January 14, at least 10 states in India had outbreaks of avian influenza.
The Indian government has issued a nationwide warning.
In order to prevent the spread of the epidemic, some local poultry farms were closed and thousands of poultry were put down.
