The number of refugees fleeing violence doubled to 60,000 in a week after the presidential election in the
Central African Republic began last month, the United Nations said on January 15.
The UNHCR said more than 50,000 of them fled across the Oubangui River to the Democratic
Republic of the Congo — 10,000 people arrived in the Democratic Republic of the
Congo on Wednesday alone after rebel attacks near Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic.
