In Mamuju, the capital of West Sulawesi Province, hundreds of homes, a provincial government building, and a hotel, hospital and supermarket were severely damaged in the earthquake.
Local power is outage and communication is intermittent. The road connecting Majne County and Mamuju has not been restored due to traffic disruption due to multiple landslides.
The statement said that the rescue team composed of the Indonesian National Disaster Relief Agency, together with the Indonesian National Army and the police, the National Search and Rescue Service, local health agencies and volunteers, is actively treating the wounded, building emergency shelters, helping people evacuate and counting casualties and property losses.
In addition to food, blankets and cushions, tents, medical supplies are urgently needed in the disaster area, and heavy machinery and communication equipment such as excavators are needed, the statement said.

The earthquake and the tsunami caused by it killed more than 2,000 people.
