Indonesian Islamic cleric Bashir, a terrorist closely linked to the Bali bombing in 2002, is expected to be freed on January 8 after serving his 15-year sentence.
The 82-year-old Islamist, a former spiritual leader of Indonesia’s most notorious extremist radical organization, was found to have funded a terrorist training camp in Aceh Province in 2011.
“Bashir has reduced his sentence cumulatively by 55 months, which is usually reduced according to the prisoner’s sentence, religious holiday exemptions and illness,” said Rika Aprianti, spokesman for the Department of Corrections of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
