On the afternoon of January 5th, local time, Tamim, the Prince of Qatar, arrived in the western Saudi city of Euler and will lead a delegation to participate in the 41st Leaders Summit of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf later that day.
The GCC is composed of six countries: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait.
Tamim was the last GCC leader to arrive in Euler, which was also the first visit of Qatar’s head of state to Saudi Arabia in more than three years.
In June 2017, Saudi Arabia and other countries broke off diplomatic relations with Qatar on the grounds of “supporting terrorism”.
Since then, King Salman of Saudi Arabia has invited Tamim to participate in the GCC summit twice, but in the end, Qatar only sent the Prime Minister or Foreign Minister to participate in the meeting.
External analysis pointed out that Tamim’s personal participation in the summit shows that the relationship of mutual trust between Saudi Arabia and Qatar is re-establishing.
According to the plan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar will formally sign an agreement to reopen the airspace, land and maritime borders to each other during the summit.
