The Secretary for Education of Hong Kong, Mr. Yang Runxiong, announced that due to the severe epidemic, Hong Kong kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, special schools and schools that provide non-local courses will be suspended from January 15 to the Lunar New Year holiday.
Yang Runxiong said that students’ long-term failure to return to school will affect their studies, so the Education Bureau allows a small number of students to return to school for face-to-face courses under the premise that the school has taken adequate epidemic prevention measures.
Among them, the students of Form Six can go back to school, while the students of Form Six can go back to school for examination.
He added that after January 11, schools can also extend the relevant arrangements to other grades.
In terms of secondary schools, schools can arrange for the return of students from Form 1 to Form 6 for half a day, but the number of students returning to school every half day shall not exceed one sixth of the students in the school quota, but it cannot be in the same class.
In addition to maintaining the above arrangements in primary schools, the Hong Kong Education Council also advises schools not to arrange for students to return to school in the afternoon.
The Hong Kong SAR Government issued a press release on December 21, 2020, saying that the COVID-19 epidemic is still very serious and the Hong Kong government needs to continue to take strict measures to deal with the epidemic.
December 21, the Education Bureau announced that all kindergartens and primary and secondary schools (including special schools and schools that provide non-local courses) will be on Christmas holidays. After the end of the period, face-to-face classrooms and in-school activities will continue to be suspended.
During this period, private schools (commonly known as remedial schools) that provide non-formal courses also continue to suspend face-to-face classrooms and in-school activities at all levels.
