January 4th, Niger Prime Minister Brigi Rafini issued a statement on the evening of the 3rd that two villages in western Nepal were attacked by armed men on the 2nd, and the death toll had risen to 100.
Rafini said that the two villages attacked were located in Tiraberg province in western Niger, of which 70 people were killed in the attack in Jongbangu and at least 30 in Zarumdareye.
Rafini said that the armed men who caused the attack have not been found, but security measures in the area where the incident were attacked have been strengthened.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Interior of Niger on the morning of the 3rd said that several armed men broke into two villages in Tiraberg province on the morning of the 2nd, killing at least 20 people in addition to killing at least 70 people.
The attack was in retaliation after two members of the armed group were killed by villagers while committing crimes in the area.
