Chevron announced in 2010 that it had discovered the first commercial oil reservoir in Cambodian history and submitted its development and operation plan to the Royal Government of Cambodia. According to the plan, Cambodia will produce its first drop of oil in 2012.
However, due to the failure to reach an agreement on the distribution of economic benefits, the implementation of the plan failed. In the following negotiations, the aforementioned three companies from the United States, South Korea and Japan applied for withdrawal from cooperation in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
So far, the negotiations lasted from 2010 to August 23, 2017 before reaching a new contract, and the construction of the oil platform was carried out.
