Recently, local residents in Okinawa, Japan, found radioactive toxic waste in a 4,000-hectare training ground returned by the U.S. military.

The area also contains mountainous areas and nature reserves with rare animals and plants.

It is reported that in the status-of-Japanese-US status agreement

when the U.S. military returns a facility or an area to Japan

it is not obliged to restore it to its original state or compensate it.
