December 18th – A further African-American man was shot dead by the police in the United States recently. The autopsy results released on the 16th showed that the man was shot fatally in the back.
According to ABC on the 17th, Joshua Best, 22, was shot dead in the back by Jose Santos, a police officer in Lamarck, Texas, on the 9th. Santos is currently on paid leave.
Ben Krup, a lawyer representing Best’s family, said that eyewitness testimony showed that Best tried to escape from the police when he was shot, which was confirmed by the autopsy results released on the evening of the 16th. “We now demand the immediate termination of Officer Santos, based on the results of an independent autopsy and medical records on the night of Joshua Best’s murder,” Krup said.
Lamarck Police Chief Kirk Jackson said the victim Best was linked to several recent shootings in the southern edge of Houston because weapons were found at the scene of his shooting. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office are investigating Best’s death.
