December 17th local time, after a parliamentary vote, Portuguese President de Sousa signed a decree extending the national emergency for 15 days from December 24 to January 7, 2021, which is also Portugal’s seventh declaration of a state of emergency in response to the COVID-19 epidemic.
In his speech to the whole country, President de Sousa called on people to celebrate the festival responsibly, otherwise January next year will inevitably suffer the worsening of the epidemic and the unpredictable consequences.
The Portuguese Constitution stipulates that some of the rights and freedoms of citizens can be restricted during the national emergency, but the duration of each time cannot exceed 15 days.
