Bloomberg quoted information from the Brazilian G1 website on December 17, according to sources familiar with the discussions between Brazilian Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello and Sao Paulo Governor Joao Doria, that the Brazilian Federal Government has decided to purchase China Kexing Bio Coronavac Coronavirus vaccine.
According to G1, the Butantan Institute of Biomedical Research in Sao Paulo, Brazil is waiting for the Brazilian Ministry of Health to transmit an irrevocable letter of intent to purchase Coronavac vaccine and include it in the country’s national immunization plan.
According to a previous report by Reuters, the Brazilian government announced the national Coronavirus vaccination plan on Saturday. The initial goal is to vaccinate 51 million people in the first half of 2021, accounting for about a quarter of the Brazilian population.
In a document submitted to the country’s Supreme Court, Brazil’s Ministry of Health stated that 108 million doses of the vaccine will be given priority vaccination for vulnerable groups, including health workers, the elderly and indigenous communities. The Supreme Court previously set a deadline for the Brazilian government to announce the plan.
