At the 39th plenary session of the Asian Olympic Council held on the 16th, Doha, Qatar, defeated Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to win the right to host the 2030 Asian Games.
Riyadh, the second-ranked vote, was automatically postponed to become the host city of the 2034 Asian Games. It was also announced that breakdancing and e-sports were approved to be included in the competition items of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
The plenary session of the Asian Olympic Council was held in Muscat, the capital of Oman. The right to host the Asian Games is decided by online electronic voting.
According to Reuters, before the vote began, Saudi Arabia once asked the Asian Olympic Council to suspend the voting process, saying that the vote “there may be technical fraud”.
In announcing the voting results, the Olympic Council of Asia said that the online electronic voting system had encountered some technical problems, but it was not serious. It was very happy that the 2030 and 2034 Asian Games would be held in West Asia.
Doha previously hosted the 2006 Asian Games and won the 2022 World Cup. Qatari media called Doha the regional sports capital. Compared with Doha, Riyadh has no experience in hosting any major international comprehensive events.
The 2022 and 2026 Asian Games will be held in East Asia, with the host cities of Hangzhou, China and Nagoya, Japan.
